Maine linebacker Christophe Mulumba Tshimanga was the CAA Football defensive player of the year last season.
Baltimore, MD (SportsNetwork.com) -
An all-conference player in CAA Football was asked if he could name a player from the University of Maine, which happens to be the defending champion.
"Yeah, I can name one, Kendall James," said the player, perhaps forgetting the cornerback was a senior last season and is off to an NFL career.
"They had that defensive end," said the player's teammate. "Number 9."
He's graduated, too.
A moment of pause. "I know they have (Jack) Cosgrove, their head coach," the teammate added, before everybody realized the two standout players weren't going to name a current Black Bear.
Southland on the rise
By Craig Haley, FCS Exec. Director
Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) -
The growth of Southland Conference football from eight to 11 teams this season has people talking about a superconference.
Those within the Southland are pointing more to being a super conference.
The Southland is on the rise after Sam Houston State's back-to-back appearances in the FCS championship game in 2011 and '12 and Southeastern Louisiana's quick rise to being a national championship contender.
